For the first time in my life, I bought myself fresh flowers this week. Before you ask, no it wasn’t a special occasion. And yes, I have received flowers before. I wasn’t always a big fan of buying or receiving fresh flowers because they are a temporary luxury.
To me, buying fresh flowers seemed like a waste of money. I always thought it was better to buy artificial flowers. Obviously, I don’t think like that anymore. I was wrong . In this post I will give you three reasons why it’s a good idea to occasionally buy yourself fresh flowers. Let’s dive in!
- Buying fresh flowers is a form of self-care
According to the National Institute of Mental Health self-care is about taking the time to do things that help you improve your physical and mental health. It’s about taking care of yourself. As a creative person, sometimes it’s easy to get lost in our work that we forget to take care of ourselves. We tend to put work above ourselves and that’s a dangerous space to be in. So stop prioritizing work over your well-being. As they say, you can’t pour out of an empty cup. Your work can wait. Take care of you first.

Buying yourself flowers can serve as a reminder that you are worth taking care of. You don’t have to wait for someone else to buy flowers for you. You also don’t have to only buy flowers for other people. You can buy them for you. You are worth spending money on. Remind yourself that buying flowers is a form of self-care. By practicing self-care you can improve your mood which in turn boosts your creativity.
- Fresh flowers help to develop an abundance mindset
At the risk of sounding like a life coach, the way we view the world has a profound impact on our creativity and how we use it. A scarcity mindset will inhibit your creativity because the only person you are thinking about is yourself. It’s all about survival. You will miss out on opportunities and blessings that can come from sharing your gift.
Flowers represent beauty, life and growth. They remind us of the abundance and beauty that exists in the world. Having fresh flowers in your home can be a symbolic and practical way to shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance. A scarcity mindset is based in fear. Fear that our work doesn’t matter. The fear of the future. Will our creative pursuits pay off? How do we know we are doing the right thing? All worries and doubts about our creativity come from having this unhealthy scarcity mindset.

Fresh flowers can help us focus on the present moment so we can appreciate where we are. They remind us to be grateful. The world is bigger than us and there are a lot of opportunities out there waiting for us to find them. A quote often attributed to Maya Angelou goes like this “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have”. Use your gifts and talents. Don’t be afraid to share them with the world. Don’t be afraid to be seen and heard. Flowers are not afraid to display their beauty, then why should you?
3. Fresh flowers can enhance your environment
Flowers are visually appealing. They are beautiful to look at and depending on the kind they will have a calming scent. Adding fresh flowers to your workspace or your home can help to spark creativity and brighten up your space. Anytime you look at the flowers in your home they can evoke positive emotions which in turn boosts your mood.
The presence of flowers is known to have an immediate impact on our happiness. From practicing self-care, to developing an abundance mindset and enhancing our environments, buying fresh flowers is a simple, yet effective way to boost our creativity. What other ways do you use to boost your creativity? Thanks for reading!
